An Illustrious History
In 1945, Aprilia was founded as a bicycle factory in Noale, Italy. In 1968 Alberto’s son Ivano took over the helm, and constructed the first 50cc motorcycle. The early production ‘mopeds’ were Colibri, Daniela and Packi. The Scarabeo, the company’s first motocross bike, followed in 1970.
The company continued to evolve following the production of a number of rally and road racing models. In 1992, Aprilia bikes won the World 125 Road Racing Championship title and the World Trials Championship. Since then the brand has bagged a host of victories. These include the 125 and 250cc class Grand Prix, Road Racing World Championships and European speed contests. The development and production of new models continued, as did the firm’s involvement in motorsport. With the RS Cube, the company pioneered advanced technologies including ride by wire throttle and pneumatic valve actuation systems. In 2010, this by-now legendary company became the most successful motorcycle racing brand in history.
